The cabinet of curiosities is a century-old display tool used by museums to entice and intrigue. In the cabinet’s many drawers and cases, the visitor discovers what is hidden within. It is the first, and most lasting, tool used by museums to create interactive experiences for visitors.
HLSL has acquired a beautifully crafted oak cabinet, with 34 drawers, each one covered with a glass top. It is a Cabinet of Curiosities in the making.
We invite you to the launch of a new exhibit of artefacts and photos from the Astle family collection which will be displayed in this piece. To learn more about the collection, and how you can help identify the people and places in the photos, please click here.
A stepping-stone in the building of a community museum is to get the community involved. We do hope you’ll join us at this event, and that you’ll leave your comments about the images in the collection. Please help us by spreading the word to your friends and neighbours!
