Flavours of the Places We Call Home – Launch Event

17:00-19:00
67 rue du Rocher, Rivière-du-Loup, QC, G5R 1J8

How does the food we prepare reflect the places we come from, and connect us to the places we end up?

What do our tables tell us about culture, history, community, identity, environment? How do we tell our stories through the recipes we remember?

We wanted to find out!

The result is a unique project called Flavours of the Places We Call Home, graciously funded by Canadian Heritage.

We interviewed and filmed 11 community members who spoke to us about a recipe they hold dear, from Irish pancakes to Nepalese momo; from locally foraged herbal tisane to steamed rice with Chinese sausage, and much more. Food is a language unto itself, and we were thrilled to collect the stories and recipes of newcomers and longstanding residents spanning from La Pocatière to Métis-sur-Mer.

Join us as we explore the richness and flavours of the diverse communities and of the Lower St. Lawrence – through food!

On Thursday February 19th, HLSL is delighted to invite you the in-person launch of the project, with a screening of the films at Salle Bon-Pasteur in Rivière-du-Loup, Q&A with the filmmaker Guillaume Levesque and some of the interviewees, and a chance to taste some of the recipes from the project!

Free Event. Registration required.
