A bilingual event, with the acclaimed author of The War We Won Apart (Notre Guerre)
Join us for a very special bilingual event in Métis-sur-Mer with award-winning writer, broadcaster and current host of CBC Radio program and podcast Ideas, Nahlah Ayed, presented by HLSL and CLAC Mitis.

Nahlah Ayed is an award-winning writer, broadcaster, and current host of the CBC Radio program and podcast, Ideas. For two decades, Ayed reported from conflict zones around the globe—from Afghanistan and Iraq to Gaza and Ukraine. Her first book, A Thousand Farewells, was a finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Awards.
Nahlah will be reading from her book, the national bestseller The War We Won Apart (Penguin Random House, 2025) and will be featured in conversation with HLSL Cultural Coordinator Rachel McCrum. There will also be a reading from Notre Guerre, the new French-language translation of The War We Won Apart. Nahlah will be present for a book signing after the event.

“This is a tale full of intrigue and suspense, but at its heart it’s a love story, the kind that can only be forged within the intense heat of war. It’s rendered even more poignant because the whole story is true, meticulously researched and crafted by one of Canada’s finest journalists.”
—Carol Off, award-winning journalist and author of All We Leave Behind
Tickets to this event are available for purchase online or at the door.
This project is funded by the Secrétariat aux relations avec les Québécois d’expression anglaise and by CLAC Mitis.
