A Wardrobe of Memories Exhibit Preview opens March 1, 2026
HLSL, in association with Les Jardins de Métis, is proud to announce a new exhibit which looks at life through garments in Métis.
Up until the 1960’s, what did people pack in their suitcases when spending the summer in what was then called Metis Beach (Métis‑sur‑Mer)—a place that was both a summer resort and a living community, where social conventions required changing outfits according to the time of day and the activities at hand?
How did the contents of the trunks of summer visitors differ from the wardrobes of year-rounders?
These are the questions that run through A Wardrobe of Memories, an exhibition which brings accessories and garments from private collections into dialogue, bringing the heyday of Metis Beach (Métis‑sur‑Mer) back to life—and sharing a few of its memories.
As a preview to the larger exhibit planned for Summer 2026, a small selection of accessories and garments associated with sea bathing will be exhibited from March 1 to 8, 2026, by Heritage Lower Saint Lawrence, at the Town Hall of Métis-sur-Mer.
