LIBRARY SERVICES & LITERACY COORDINATOR
JOB DESCRIPTION Heritage Lower Saint Lawrence, whose mission is to mobilize people and resources to support the vitality of the English-speaking community of the region, foster the well-being of all its members, and promote its interests, would like to announce an opening for the position of Library Services and Literacy Coordinator. POSITION SUMMARY: In collaboration with the Heritage Lower Saint Lawrence team and under the authority of the Assistant Director, Culture & Heritage, the person sought will plan, coordinate and develop the services of the two (2) HLSL public libraries: the bilingual Métis-sur-Mer library AND the English-language Rimouski library. The incumbent adheres to the vision and mission of HSLS and is committed to following the applicable bylaws and internal governance policies. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the collections of the HLSL libraries, including circulation of the collection through Réseau-Biblio’s inter-library loan system;
- Foster and maintain positive relationships with library members, volunteers, and our many partners: Réseau-Biblio du Bas St-Laurent, local schools, early childhood centres, RDL, Mont-Joli & Matane public libraries, & all other relevant LSL partners and/or organizations;
- Recruit, support, train, and coordinate library volunteers (establish monthly volunteers’ schedules, and organize specific larger tasks);
- Implement community-based literacy-promoting programming (ex: TD Summer Reading Club, bilingual story-time activities, author talks, conferences, Library on Wheels, book exhibitions, etc.) for the general public and/or a targeted clientele;
- Ensure the development and/or the updating of the Rimouski and Métis-sur-Mer Book Collections; via collaboration, with, among others, the Assistant Director, Health & Social Services and LSL health partners for the Health Book Collection;
- Help prepare and manage the libraries’ annual operating budget;
- Compile and produce libraries’ monthly statistical data;
- Prepare the reports to meet the organization’s funding requirements; etc.
