Heritage Lower Saint Lawrence (HLSL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Woodfine to the position of Executive Director of the organization.
Originally from Nova Scotia, Susan Woodfine has lived in Rimouski for more than 20 years and is familiar with the organization’s mandate both through her engagement in the community over the years as well as having been a former Heritage board member. Susan’s background in journalism, business development, and education technology ensures the continued visibility of HLSL in the media, community, and with various stakeholders in the Lower Saint Lawrence’s eight MRCs.
Ms. Woodfine replaces Dr. Philippe Dufort who is leaving the organization after two years to manage CMētis – a newly founded non-profit organization that focuses on social economy projects in design, construction, and real estate development. “HLSL is a fast growing organization leading inspiring projects that contribute to changing the face of our region for the better. The arrival of such an accomplished professional as Susan Woodfine as Executive Director makes me believe the future is even brighter!” says the former Executive Director, Dr. Philippe Dufort.
“I raised my two children here and consider myself to be a well-integrated anglophone, but I also know that integration into the francophone community, similar to any other language and cultural immersion is not always easy, hence the importance of HLSL to represent the Official Language Minority Communities,” she explains. “I share the same vision as the former executive directors, Guy Caron (now mayor of Rimouski) and Philippe Dufort, which is one of making people feel welcome, particularly anglophones, in areas of health, social, culture, and economic interests so they’ll choose to stay and embrace the region – something that benefits the entire region and community at large.
The chairman of the Board of Directors of Heritage Lower Saint Lawrence, Alexander Reford, and the Heritage Lower Saint Lawrence team are saddened by Dufort’s departure. “Susan Woodfine brings enormous experience to Heritage and a network of contacts established over more than two decades of living in the Lower Saint Lawrence. She is a skilled communicator and the voice of our region on the CBC airwaves for many years. We are thrilled to welcome her to lead Heritage and its dedicated staff of professionals as they serve the community and embark on new projects and initiatives, “ says Mr. Reford.
