Rita Turriff and Micheline Williams help to organise the regular Senior Friendship Lunch, a wonderful community initiative that regularly brings residents of Métis-sur-Mer together to share hot meals. They were interviewed in Métis Town Hall in July 2025.

Serves: About 10 scones
Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups flour
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp white sugar
- ¼ cup butter (cold)
- Zest from 1 lemon
- 1 x apple, chopped very fine
- Handful of dry raisins
- Handful of dry cranberries
- 1/3 cup of milk
- 1 egg
Method
- Mix the flour, baking powder, and white sugar.
Add butter and lemon zest: mix till it looks like crumbs. - Add chopped apple, raisins and cranberries.
- Mix milk with egg. Put 1 tbspn aside, then add this mixture to the dry mix.
- Put on a floured board, knead till ready to handle (about 2 minutes).
- Form a circle or rectangle about ½ inch thick. Brush with the remaining tbspn of milk-egg mix and cut into 10 pieces (triangles or round pieces).
- Put on a greased cookie sheet or parchment paper, and cook in a preheated oven at 400° F for 14 minutes or until golden.
- Delicious with any kind of jam.
