Metis-sur-Mer Community War Memorial

We’re happy to announce that Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) has approved our application for funding for a lasting tribute to those who have served and are serving our country, as well as to those who support(ed) people on the front lines and in disaster zones.  Metis recognizes their service every year with a week-long calendar of Remembrance events.  Given the passage of time, and passing of many veterans, Heritage, on behalf of the community, championed construction of a permanent memorial in our area.  For those too young to remember, the Second World War came even to the shores of Métis.

VAC is to fund half the project (just under $12,000) and so we will seek the remaining $12,000 through cash and in-kind donations.  Along with the physical memorial will be a virtual commemoration on the Heritage website, including photos and oral recollections of the involvement of year-round and summer people from the area in the wars, and in peacekeeping and emergency missions.  Please DM us on Facebook, email us at info@HeritageLSL, or call the Heritage office if you’re interested in participating and for more information.  #remembrance #history #liveourheritage
