We are proud to announce a new hire to support our community!
History and heritage have always been central to Heritage Lower St. Lawrence. Since its founding in 2002, HLSL has collected photographs, objects, and stories that tell the story of Métis-sur-Mer and the region. From annual historic calendars to books like Metis – Wee Scotland of the Gaspé, HLSL has worked to preserve and share local history.
As HLSL continues to grow—expanding its programs, staff, and partnerships—history and heritage remain central to its mission. The organization is pleased to welcome archivist Caroline Allaire, who holds training in art history from Université du Québec à Montréal and a certificate in Information and Records Management. Caroline also works at Les Jardins de Métis and now joins HLSL one day a week to strengthen archival management and capacity—so please be patient as she gets settled.
This work is made possible through the generous support of the Jack Herbert Foundation.

Caroline has already dived into HLSL’s collections, collaborating with Pamela Naylor to organize hundreds of documents and dozens of archival donations. Her work includes cataloguing, digitizing, repairing, and preserving photographs, objects, and documents to ensure they are protected and accessible for the future.
HLSL has benefited from the enthusiasm of community members, contributing to projects like the 2018 Métis timeline brochure, Trails of History, and the virtual exhibition *Métis-sur-Mer: 200 Years of Shared History.
