Remembrance
With the help of Veterans Affairs Canada, and the collaboration of three regional municipalities, local Royal Canadian Legions, schools, private partners, and the public, we pay tribute to honour the men and women who have put or are putting their lives on the line, giving thanks for their service, and never taking for granted the cost of our freedom and peace around the world. While preserving the memory of our Canadian Veterans, we also give access to quality programming to help educate the general public, (adults, youth) about the military heritage of our region and the importance of Remembrance. Our region’s military history is rich. Located in Mont-Joli was the No. 9 BCAPT Bombing and Gunnery School. German submarines in the Second World War roamed up and down the St. Lawrence River.
We coordinate bilingual Remembrance activities and carry out a week of events including exhibits of students’ work, and of our archives – all held at the Town Hall in Métis-sur-Mer.
With grateful appreciation to our partners – Veterans Affairs Canada for providing generous financial aid and the Ville de Métis-sur-Mer for the use of municipal land and in-kind services – and to the Jack Herbert Foundation and Desjardins for donations. Last but not least, thanks to the Veterans, Legion Members, and permanent and summer residents who provided financial contributions, ideas, photos and encouragement for the project.
